I wake up in the magic of the night to write. Stars are twinkling above, even above the clouds that have descended over us for a few days. They are quiet now, just like the birds and cattle and my children sleeping - the only noise to be heard, the constant trill of insects - the music of the night.
The late December morning air is refreshingly cool, although you can sense the dampness from yesterday’s rain and know all too well that as the day warms those quiet clouds may begin their brew and stir again, finishing their day once more with crackles and thunder as they let go - surrendering into the quiet early hours of the morning - the music of the night.

It is the 31st of December today, the last day of 2024. The year is not done yet, the earth wants to take us for one more spin…

Let’s take a little moment to reflect before she catapults us into 2025.

My last live post via Instagram was 27 March 2023 …. Just weeks after the wrapping up of our incredible inaugural Heart of the Bush Art Exhibition and just several months since the launch of my Online Store..

Since humbly being birthed back in 2019 to share inspiration and stories from the heart of the bush, Bush Exchange was sent into a bit of a tailspin the months proceeding the launch of her online store back in October 2022.

The momentum and energy behind Bush Exchange had been building and building as more people began to appreciate her magic. The inaugural Heart of the Bush Art Exhibition drew hundreds of entries from across the country culminating in a beautiful Opening Night gathering of finalists who had travelled from near and far to our hometown Goondiwindi, a night I will never forget.

Our online store had grown to have a beautiful collection of talented artists and makers that all shared their bush magic in one way or another.  But as the momentum grew our world began to shake - something was starting to feel off-kilter.

Bush Exchange’s fire was starting to feel a bit out of control and her bearer needed to stoke other fires. Whilst I decided to take the air out of BX’s fire for a while and blow air in other directions I have held on to its hot embers and whilst we’re not quite sure what we want to do with those embers we feel it is a good time to blow a little air and add a little kindling so that bush magic can continue to glow, even if it is just a little flicker of inspiration here and there.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and may 2025 fill you with some bush magic.

From the heart of the bush,

Bridget x
