MEET RHONDA

Background

Rhonda is a landscape painter and printmaker based in Orange in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales. Through her works she is trying to convey her relationship with the land and nature, whether working in the desert, bush or wetlands.

Over time she has developed a vocabulary of colours, textures and markings to express herself and the feeling she has for a particular place.

Rhonda loves exploring and experimenting with new techniques. Both the spontaneity and challenge of the process is what energises her.

"Her abstracted or semi-abstracted pieces from nature are an expression of what she sees, feels, smells and hears in that special space in the landscape."

While many aspects of the landscape inform her work, the feeling of just being there is important… the mere presence of nature, the sheer beauty of the landscape.

“I am inspired by the land and nature and love colour and texture”.

The beauty, energy and spirit of the landscape evidently flows through Rhonda and on to her artforms.

We chat with Artist, Rhonda Campbell

What is the ‘bush’ to you?

The bush is simply my happy place. I love everything about it -  the rocks, the trees, the smells, the open space…

What is your favourite place to paint in the bush?

I am drawn to the colours of the outback and its vastness.

In particular my favourite place to paint is the Pilbara in Western Australia due to the beautiful colours on display. Its rocky mountains, its rich-red country, its big blue skies!

I’d also love to go to the Flinders Ranges to paint!

Even in the town of Orange I am surrounded by bush and find inspiration for works in the wetlands at the bottom of my street.

RHONDA TRAVELS TO THE EASTERN MACDONNELL RANGES

Rhonda recently spent 7 days with Art Travel Adventures in Northern Territory’s Eastern MacDonnell Ranges, which is the source of inspiration for her current Bush Exchange collection.

Rhonda gathered as much information as she could whilst absorbing the landscape, before creating the works back in her studio.
